Carlina vulgaris

One of the little ‘star’ plants that are in our area because of the steel industry and its slag waste on which this little thistle grows. To be fair the dead plants look much the same as the live ones in flower, but in an attractive sculptural ‘dead’ way. It’s a native biennial usually found on limy grassland.
