Silene latifolia

Essentially the white version of red campion except it is sometimes an annual and it prefers to be out in the open where the ground is occasionally disturbed and so is quite common along the coastline. In 2015 the male plants at Marske seafront had been infected with anther smut fungus causing them to turn black at the centre.
