This project funded by National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund aimed to get people exploring the Cleveland Coast in the summer of 2015 to discover the glorious, beautiful and splendid coastal wildflowers and to discover how the landscapes’ history has influenced the distribution of the wildflowers found today.

Nature loving citizens from across Redcar and Cleveland and beyond helped us to collect images of Cleveland coastal wildflowers from the most common to the most unusual across a single summer and learnt about the coastal wildflowers of the Cleveland Coast by joining us on photographic workshops, summer walks or wildflower events.

This project has helped generate records of flowering plants and improve our understanding of the flora of the Cleveland Coast. The images from the project have been used to develop this web based guide to the Flowers of the Cleveland Coast for residents and visitors alike. Simple maps for different localities have been prepared to encourage future exploration of the coast’s wildflower heritage.
