Field Horsetail (plus seed heads of Ribwort Plantain)

Field horsetail is quite common along the coastal grassland and sometimes in the sand dunes. It has very deep and far-reaching perennial roots that make it a nightmare weed in the garden (only way to get rid of it is to move house). It can be confusing though because it puts up white/pinkish fertile stems in early spring and then later on the more familiar sterile green ones that look a little like miniature conifers and it’s not at all obvious that they are both the same plant.
